The body of a man was found in the water of the old Ghent docks on Monday morning, announced the East Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The cause of death and the identity of the victim are not yet known. The body was found in the water of the Houtdok at around 11:00 on Monday, near the Mijnhoutkaai, a quay of the city's old dockyard.
The procedure relating to bodies found in water has been initiated and the public prosecutor has appointed a forensic pathologist to continue the investigation. The forensic police also attended the scene.
Further investigation should shed light on the death, with the body having been transferred to the morgue.
