Brussels firefighters were called to a burning apartment in Etterbeek late on Sunday night, according to reports.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had claimed one victim. "The charred remains of a victim were unfortunately discovered in the house," confirmed Walter Derieuw, spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade.

"When the firefighters arrive on the scene, they discover high levels of smoke," says Derieuw. "The apartment was full of objects of all kinds that made it difficult to progress," said the spokesman.

The incident took place on rue de l’Escadron. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
