The global club of dollar millionaires has expanded once again, reaching its highest level ever according to data released on Wednesday by consultancy firm Capgemini.
Last year, around 23.4 million people had financial assets worth at least one million dollars (over €878,000), marking a 2.6% increase from 2023. This is the highest figure recorded since Capgemini began publishing the World Wealth Report in 1997.
The total wealth of these affluent individuals rose by 4.2% year-on-year to a staggering 90.5 trillion dollars (€79.5 trillion), with growth primarily driven by the United States.
The United States remains the country with the largest number of dollar millionaires, counting 7.993 million people in 2024, up from 7.431 million in 2023. Japan follows with 3.990 million wealthy individuals, compared to 3.777 million the previous year.
To compile the report, Capgemini analysed 71 countries that represent 98% of the global GDP and 99% of global market capitalisation.
The wealth measurement includes stocks, bonds, investments, cash, and real estate, excluding primary residences. Art collections and consumer goods like cars and jewellery are not included in this assessment.
