Three separate attacks occurred in Boom and the Antwerp districts of Borgherhout and Merksem on Monday night, according to the Antwerp Prosecutor's Office. There were no casualties.
A first attack was carried out just after 02:30 in the Guldensporenstraat in Borgerhout on Monday night. Unknown persons tried to detonate two water bottles filled with fuel in front of a house, according to Gazet Van Antwerpen. There was a brief fire but damage was limited. Emergency services arrived at the scene and set up a perimeter.
At the same time as the attack in Borgerhout, an explosive device was also detonated in Boom, against the front door of a house on Gasstraat. The door was badly damaged.
While emergency services were in Boom and Borgerhout, an explosion also sounded on Gasthuishoevestraat in Merksem. Another house was targeted, leaving the front door, a parked car and some rubbish bags damaged.
A judge has been requisitioned by the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate the three incidents. The investigation will determine whether these attacks are connected and if they are associated with drug-related activities.
