A fire severely damaged a house in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek on Thursday, injuring eight people, including one firefighter.
Fire services responded to the blaze, which started on the first floor of the three-storey house on Rue Albert de Latour at around 05:15 on Thursday morning. They successfully rescued two occupants.
"We contained the fire around 05:50 and rescued two occupants, although clearance and ventilation work is still ongoing," explained Brussels firefighter spokesperson Walter Derieuw. The fire's cause remains unknown.
Seven people were affected by smoke inhalation, two of whom required hospital treatment. During the incident, one firefighter fell unwell due to heat stress.
The fire service declared the building temporarily uninhabitable. During their operation, rescuers found five electric scooters inside the property. These were submerged in a water-filled container for cooling.
