The Belgium-Palestine Association has announced a sixth European march for a Gaza ceasefire to take place in Brussels this Sunday 19 May.

The demonstration is the result of a coalition of civil society organisations including the Palestinian collective Beitna, CNCD-11.11.11, and the Union of Jewish Progressives of Belgium (UPJB). The march will commence with a gathering at the Brussels-North station at 13:30. From there, the procession will leave around 14:30 to march towards Jean Rey Square, where speeches will be given.

Representatives from university campus occupations, along with delegations of protesters from France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, and Germany, will be speaking.

As with previous gatherings, protestors will call upon the Belgian Federal Government and the European Union to exert economic and diplomatic pressures against Israel, particularly during Belgium’s EU presidency.

The coalition also demands legal actions against Israel to be taken at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. They call for initiatives for a complete international military embargo and a ban on all forms of trade with Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory.

"Preventing a genocide is not done with words, but with concrete pressure. We will once again march in the streets of Brussels this Sunday to demand sanctions against Israel until it respects international law," emphasises Grégory Mauzé of the Belgium-Palestine Association.
