Approximately 200,000 people marched through the capital on Saturday afternoon during Brussels Pride, an annual highlight for Belgium’s LGBTQIA+ community.
This was announced on Sunday by Visit.Brussels, which coordinated the event in partnership with RainbowHouse and the shopkeepers association from the Saint-Jacques quarter.
On Saturday afternoon, police estimated the number to be around 60,000.
The Pride theme this year was “Safe Everyday Everywhere,” advocating for a society where everyone, regardless of orientation or origin, can feel free.
According to police, there were no significant incidents during the day.
Brussels enjoys a spirit of freedom, bolstered by non-discriminatory legislation Visit.Brussels emphasise. The city can be proud to be the capital of the "second most LGBTQIA+ friendly” country in Europe, according to the 2023 rankings from ILGA-Europe, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association.
