Cardo Hotels is opening a second branch in Brussels. The establishment will offer some of the largest rooms and suites in the capital city.

The 30-storey building, located in Place Rogier, used to be home to the Sheraton Hotel, which closed in 2016. To revitalise the site, Cardo Hotels is adding to the Marriot Bonvoy hotel group's Autograph Collection and bringing together over 31 hotel brands. In a press release, the group highlighted the excellent location and stunning views on offer to guests.

The new hotel is a "distinctive destination where personal well-being and corporate culture merge effortlessly," according to Head of Cardo Hotels Nicolas Romero Oneto. "We envision this blend as the future of hotel experiences – a sophisticated, eclectic combination of the public and private spheres, balancing professional needs with personal leisure."

In way of leisure, the top floor will house a 160 m2 gym, spa facilities and a 70 m2 indoor rooftop pool overlooking the city and open all year round. There will be a range of food and drink options available too, including Belgian cuisine at Gritto's Restaurant ('Gritto' being a nickname for Belgian artist René Magritte), expert mixology at Doodles Bar and Asian-Mediterranean fusions at Akai – also on the top floor.

The hotel will also have 15 meeting rooms of varying sizes available for guest use.

Belgitude

Cardo Hotels is keen to highlight the authentic Belgian aspects of the new establishment's aesthetic. On the outside, Magritte's Le fils de l'homme will cover the entire façade. Upon entering the building, guests will be met with a cartoon avatar version of themselves on a large screen in the reception.

Nods to Belgian icons such as Tintin, the Smurfs and Magritte will be evident throughout all of the Cardo's 532 rooms, where guests will come across furniture such as umbrella-shaped tables and bookshelves decked with comic books.

"We are offering signature experiences such as meeting caricature artist and sight-seeing jogging sessions, as well as fascinating talks and workshops," noted General Manager Duco Heijbroek.

Cardo Hotel's first establishment is located in Rome. Its Brussels counterpart is due to open this summer.
