Like every year in the Brussels-Capital Region, many major works are carried out during the calmer summer holiday months, when 20% less cars than usual drive in the city. The works aim to improve safety and comfort for all road users.

Tunnels and bridges

From 15 July until the end of August, Brussels Mobility will remove asbestos in the Delta tunnel. The entire tunnel, including the loop to Delta commuter car park, will be closed and the E411 motorway towards the centre will be closed from Demey. A diversion is planned via Chaussée de Wavre, Boulevard du Souverain and Boulevard des Invalides.

In the same area, the second phase of the renovation of the Beaulieu bridge over the E411 motorway and Delta tunnel is taking place until the end of August. This will involve the complete renovation of the bridge deck, including expansion joints, waterproofing, roadway and railings. While the lanes towards Ixelles/City Centre were renovated last year, it will be the lanes towards Auderghem this time.

During these works, one lane per direction will be open to traffic. To coordinate the interventions in the south of the region, Brussels Mobility has taken into account the works carried out by the Flemish Region on the Leonard tunnel as much as possible.

The Tervuren tunnel will also be renovated. The tunnel tube towards the city centre will be closed from 1 July, and traffic in both directions will have to use one lane in the other tunnel tube. The tunnel towards the suburbs will be closed overnight on 4 August, and from then on traffic will have to pass through the shaft towards the city centre.

During the two phases, pre-signalling will begin at the entrance to the Belliard tunnel, and the right-hand lane will be closed until the E40/Tervuren junction.

The Woluwe tunnel will be closed in both directions from 15 to 19 July for painting works. Traffic will have to go above ground there.

Additionally, the Reyers-Centre tunnel will be closed from 22 July to 31 August as an accompanying measure for the refurbishment of Schuman Square by Beliris.

Refurbishment

Brussels Mobility is also transforming Avenue des Croix du Feu into a city boulevard. This summer, works will be carried out at the intersection with Chaussée de Vilvorde at one end and at the intersection of Avenue Mustaard and Gros Tilleul roundabout at the other.

In the area around the Heembeek stop, the finishing touches are being made to tram line 10, which will begin running this autumn.

As part of the redevelopment of Sainctelette, work on the intersection of Rue Adolphe Lavallée, Quai des Charbonnages and Boulevard Léopold II will be carried out until the end of construction work. After the summer, the foundations for the pedestrian bridges will be placed and the pedestrian zone and cycle paths will be constructed. Traffic in the Annie Cordy tunnel will have to use one lane on the Sainctelette exit heading south from 6 to 26 August.

Bicycle lanes, public transport and traffic safety

Along Avenue Bordet, Brussels Mobility is laying a two-way cycle path between Avenue Leopold III and Chaussée de Haecht. Only one lane will be available throughout the works and the shopping centre will only be accessible via the access along the Chaussée de Haecht.

The cycle path on Boulevard Baudouin and Boulevard d'Anvers will be asphalted, as well as on the Small Ring Road between Rue Blaes and Rue Terre-Neuve. To limit disruption, this will be done outside the period of the Foire de Midi.

In the city centre, Brussels Mobility is continuing construction work of the Toots Thielemans metro station and the renovation of the Central Station metro station. Beliris is also continuing renovations of Place Royale.
