Heavy rainfall is expected in several Belgian provinces from Tuesday afternoon. Code yellow will be activated from noon as, locally, rain is expected to come bucketing down.
After a largely dry start on Tuesday morning, a disturbance will gradually shift across Belgium from the southwest on Tuesday bringing heavy rainfall. Locally, there is a chance of thunderstorms with fierce wind gusts and hail, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) warned.
"As we expect between 25 and 50 mm of precipitation in 24h in several provinces (there is still uncertainty about which ones), we are issuing a code yellow," the RMI wrote on its website. "There is also a chance of very locally strong wind gusts and hail during thunderstorms, especially along the German and Luxembourg border."
The code yellow for rainfall will come into force from noon in Brussels as well as the provinces of Flemish Brabant, Limburg, Antwerp, East Flanders, Liège, Hainaut, Namur, Luxembourg and Walloon-Brabant. Only at the coast and in West Flanders has code yellow not been issued.
