After weeks of heavy rain and changeable weather, it seems as if summer is on its way to Belgium after all. After the weekend, the weather will remain mostly dry and sunny, with temperatures of up to 28°C towards the end of the week.
The weather will get a lot warmer with temperatures climbing well above 20°C for all of next week, even reaching up to 28°C towards the end of the week. However, there is a chance the high temperatures will be accompanied by thunderstorms in the second half of the week.
"From Sunday onwards, it will remain mostly dry. There are very few precipitation signals, and for an extended period. Next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will likely have several dry days," said VRT weather reporter Bram Verbruggen.
Belgium is likely to get fairly warm weather in the coming 14 days, especially next week, said the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) on its website. "The chance of precipitation is rather small, but taking into account the still fairly long-term, we should still take it into account."
As things stand now, temperatures are expected to drop to around 21°C with showers again for the start of July.
But more rain first
Before the sun starts coming out next week, a lot of rain is still expected in the second half of this week. While it will remain dry on Wednesday evening and during the night, rain and thunderstorms will again pass over Belgium on Thursday.
The precipitation may be very intense at times, with maximum temperatures between 17°C and 24°C. Winds will be mostly moderate at first but can pick up later in the day.
Friday is likely to start cloudy with rain or locally intense showers. In the afternoon, it will become drier from the west and while the sun may come out here and there, maximum temperatures will not surpass 21°C.
Saturday will remain alternately cloudy with showers, with temperatures between 13°C and 18°C and weak to sometimes moderate winds. Sunday will also bring the same weather pattern: alternating to partly cloudy with local showers and temperatures between 16°C and 21°C.
