Nearly one in six construction firms will deviate from the collective construction industry holiday this summer, the Flemish construction federation, Bouwunie, said on Tuesday.

Every year, the construction industry advises annual vacation periods, with every province can decide when that is. In Brussels/Halle/Vilvoorde, the holidays for 2024 are between 8 July to 2 August, which also applies to Walloon Brabant.

A growing trend of companies setting their own holiday schedules has been growing annually – with it now double what it was in 2016.

While the summer hiatus is more a suggestion than a rule, it’s entirely feasible to drift away from it.

Enbuild, the industry federation, stated in mid-June that some firms plan to forego the holiday in an effort to make up for delays caused by the especially wet spring.
