The deadline for submitting online tax returns has been extended to Friday 19 July, the Belgian Ministry of Finance has confirmed on Friday.
The previous deadline was set for 15 July, but due to technical issues with the online portal, the ministry said the deadline has been extended.
The tax office explained that some users have been experiencing difficulties submitting their returns through the MyMinfin (Tax-on-web) portal.
Belgian tax authorities are expecting around 7.4 million tax returns to be filed this year, of which around 2 million must be filed online by the July deadline. Around 600,000 online tax returns were still outstanding by the final week of June.
The extension will only apply to those uploading their returns – there is no change to the deadline to amend already submitted online declarations. Taxpayers who have already made their submission can still make one single revision until 15 July.
For taxpayers with specific incomes – including self-employed individuals and those with overseas professional income – the deadline remains 16 October.
