Astronomy enthusiasts are set to turn their gaze skyward for the 2024 Night of Stars event, scheduled for 8 August next, the Euro Space Centre announced on Monday.

The event coincides with the peak of the Perseids, an annual meteor shower that lights up the sky every August.

This year’s edition of the Night of the Stars comes with new activities.

At the Euro Space Center in Transinne, Wallonia, visitors will have ample opportunities to observe the shooting stars, which are expected to cross the sky in greater numbers.

Two new aspects will enhance the event: a theatrical show called 'Light Grinding the Dark,' and a performance entitled 'Music and Astronomy' that blends science and art.

The evening will kick-off at 4:30 p.m. with sun observations, followed by various astronomy workshops. Later, guests of all ages can admire the planetarium, guided by the commentary of an expert, and attend the 'Wild Wild Space' lecture.

Night-time observations will start at 10.30 p.m. with the aid of equipment provided by astronomy clubs. Between 70 and 110 shooting stars per hour are expected to be visible during the peak of the Perseids, with the Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter also on display.

Admission to the event is free and no reservation is needed. More information can be found on the Euro Space Center’s website: www.eurospacecenter.be.
