US President Joe Biden commented on Monday that France has ‘rejected extremism’ in its legislative elections, asserting that Democrats will do the same thing at the US presidential election in November.

"France rejected extremism, Democrats will reject it here as well," Biden said on MSNBC television programme "Morning Joe." He added that he had never known a candidate who was more extreme than Donald Trump, his Republican predecessor, whom he will face in November.

John Kirby, the White House spokesman on national security, said at a press briefing that it was clear that the far-right did not achieve its anticipated results and compromise must continue to be the guiding principle in France’s democracy, as is the case in the US.

Biden values France’s alliance within NATO and eagerly anticipates continued collaboration with President Macron and his team, Kirby added.

Tuesday will mark the start of  NATO's 75th anniversary summit in Washington, which continues until Thursday.

French President Emmanuel Macron is among alliance leaders expected to attend the summit.
