More passengers are flying through Brussels Airport

Brussels Airport saw around 2.1 million people pass through its doors last month, a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2023, the airport announced on Friday.

During the first half of 2024, around 11 million passengers were recorded – 6% more than in 2023. There was a drop in passengers travelling within Europe, while the number of intercontinental transfers continued to grow.

In contrast, the volume of air cargo transported via Brussels Airport fell by 12% in June compared to the same month last year, amounting to 44,310 tonnes. The total cargo volume, compared to last year, recorded a decline of 9%, reaching 53,625 tonnes.

The top destinations for passengers in June were Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Turkey, the United States, Portugal, Morocco, France and the United Kingdom.

The first summer month also welcomed the expansion of the airport's network. The new destinations added include Shanghai, offered by Hainan Airlines, Nairobi by Brussels Airlines, and Budapest by Wizzair.
