Foreign Affairs Minister Hadja Lahbib has firmly condemned the recent shooting attempt of former US President Donald Trump.
"This act of political violence has no place in our democracy," Lahbib stated on her social media, expressing the need for unity and vigilance against such acts.
During a political rally in Pennsylvania, the former president was grazed on his right ear by a bullet that tragically resulted in a bystander’s death. The alleged 20-year-old shooter was subsequently neutralised on-site.
Bloodied and shaken, the 78-year-old Trump was promptly evacuated from the event in Butler, Pennsylvania. The rally was his final appearance before the Republican convention starting Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he’s expected to be formally nominated as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate.
World leaders, including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, expressed their shock at the attack. Shocked by the incident, Stoltenberg rebuked the attack, emphasising that "political violence has no room in our democracies… NATO allies stand together in defending our freedom and values."
