American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been detained in Romania, allegedly found in possession of cannabis after performing at a festival.
Headlining the Beach, Please! festival in the Costinesti village, the rap superstar was arrested early on Sunday according to the prosecution.
In Romania, cannabis is classified as a "risk drug", with possession potentially leading to a ten-year prison sentence.
Social media videos depict the rapper being escorted out of the festival by authorities.
The Romanian Organised Crime Prosecution (DIICOT) released a statement on Sunday, stating that Khalifa was found to have more than 18 grams of cannabis, and was seen consuming an unspecified amount onstage, in the form of a rolled cigarette.
A reliable source has confirmed to AFP that Khalifa, along with several others, was taken in for questioning. The rapper has been charged but has not been placed in custody.
The investigation is currently ongoing, per the prosecution.
The “Black and Yellow” rapper is known to openly enjoy marijuana in his songs and has invested in legal cannabis businesses in the USA.
