The Reyers-Centre Tunnel in the northeast of Brussels will be closed to traffic from Monday 22 July until the end of the summer (31 August). The closure is "an accompanying measure for the Schuman redevelopment", Brussels Mobility has stated.
Most motorists entering the Capital Region from the east normally drive through the Reyers-Centre tunnel at the end of the E40 motorway. It connects the A3 to Avenue de Cortenbergh towards the city centre.
Every day, more than 15,000 cars pass through the tunnel complex. However in the coming weeks cars will be diverted as Brussels Mobility confirmed the tunnel will be closed until the end of summer.

The closure is part of Beliris' redevelopment of the Schuman roundabout at the eastern end of the N3. The works on the major roundabout in the heart of the European Quarter started at the end of last year, and aim to turn the hectic, car-heavy area into a "real town square".
As the closure will impact one of the region's major traffic axes, it will likely result in traffic jams, even though the work is taking place during the low-traffic summer, when traffic drops by 20%, making it an ideal time for road infrastructure works.
This summer, four tunnels are being closed in Brussels. Part of the Tervuren tunnel was closed for service works on 1 July, and the entire Delta tunnel in the southeast of the region – a tunnel complex which connects the A4/E411 with Avenue de Beaulieu in Auderghem – was closed on Monday 15 July until the end of August. Meanwhile, the Woluwe tunnel was closed in both directions between 15 and 19 July.
