A Belgian man in his 60s has died in a paragliding accident in Aussois, eastern France.
The incident, first reported by local newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré and public broadcaster France 3, was confirmed on Friday by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon from Modane was summoned on Thursday evening to help a paraglider found near a road. The man had reportedly fallen nearly 40 metres after his parachute collapsed.
Emergency responders at the scene attempted to resuscitate the victim, but he had gone into cardiac arrest and could not be revived. He was a Belgian national in his 60s.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Belgian Embassy in Paris have been informed of the incident and are in contact with the man's family. An investigation has been opened to establish the precise conditions of the accident.
