Team Belgium athletes will be honoured at Brussels’ Grand-Place on Monday, 12th of August, following the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, as confirmed by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (COIB).
Brussels Mayor Philippe Close initially proposed celebrating Belgian athletes after Remco Evenepoel’s gold medal triumph. Evenepoel was already welcomed by cheering crowds in Brussels in 2022 following his Vuelta win and world title.
The date of 12 August has now been confirmed by the COIB. "After their outstanding performances, our champions are ready to return home for the celebration they deserve," said the event’s organisers.
The goal of the ceremony is to recognise all of Team Belgium’s athletes, treating medal winners and non-winners alike.
Belgium sent 165 athletes to Paris. We still don’t know who will appear on the balcony of the Town Hall. More information is expected next week.
