Belgium has secured a spot in the women’s basketball semi-finals at the Olympics. The Belgians are guaranteed to compete for a medal, either gold or bronze.
The Belgian Cats overwhelmed Spain in the quarter-finals with a 79-66 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the Arena Bercy, mirroring their win in the last Euro final.
This is the first time the women’s basketball team, who also competed in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, has reached the Olympic semi-finals.
Belgium will next face either France or Germany, who are playing at 18:00 in the third quarter-final match.
The other semi-final pits Australia, who defeated Serbia 85-67, against the winner of the USA-Nigeria match, concluding the quarter-final schedule at 9:30pm.
The semi-finals will take place on Friday evening (17:30 and 21:00) with the finals set for Sunday (11:30 and 15:30).
