The Sougné-Remouchamps medieval festival celebrates its 30th anniversary

The 15th edition of the Sougné-Remouchamps medieval festival kicks off on 17 August, with an expected attendance of over 10,000 visitors.

Organised by the Le Clan La Redoute non-profit organisation and youth movements in Remouchamps, this year's edition is a special celebration of the event's 30th anniversary. Initially setup to benefit Remouchamps’ youth movements, the festival has now become a staple in the village of Sougné-Remouchamps.

“For this special anniversary, we have assembled a new cast of predominantly professional French groups, raising the bar of the festival’s quality,” says Dominique Germain, president of Le Clan La Redoute. The festival also features an artisans' market showcasing about 50 craftsmen, representing diverse medieval trades focusing on iron, wood, and copper.

The uniqueness of Sougné-Remouchamps’ medieval festival lies in its ‘Page’s Diploma,’ a collection of 36 different activities for children to participate in. Thsee activities are organised by reenactment troops settled on the campsite and include archery, minting, weaving, calligraphy and candle making, to name a few. Children who engage in at least eight activities will receive the ‘Page’s Diploma.’

Other spectacles include knights duelling, jousting on horseback and a variety of other entertainments such as street theatre, music, fire breathers, and flag throwers.

Remouchamps’ youth movements have about 240 members. “Thanks to the festival, we have been able to completely renovate our premises and keep them operational, relieving parents of any management responsibilities,” Germain said.
