"The right lane of the Leonard tunnel, heading towards Zaventem on the outer ring of Brussels, will reopen to motorists from Saturday morning," announced the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic on Friday.

Since 5 August, drivers travelling from Waterloo to Zaventem on the outer ring have only been able to use the left lane at the Leonard junction. The right lane was shut for preparatory work on the tunnel's lateral wall as part of an extensive renovation of this traffic hotspot.

From between 06:30 and 08:00 on Saturday morning, the entire route will reopen to traffic.

However, both lanes of the outer ring will be closed again from mid-September. Instead, motorists heading to Zaventem from Waterloo will be able to use the inner ring lanes which should be fully refurbished.
