Belgium’s ministry of defence will invest at least €11 billion in new equipment by 2030.

One of the largest expenditures will be the restoration of anti-aircraft defence, with €900 million allocated towards the purchase of two complementary ground-to-air missile systems.

Another significant project in the coming years will be the acquisition of eight to ten heavy helicopters, costing €612 million, and four new search and rescue helicopters amounting to €181 million.

These new helicopters will provide the Belgian army with an unparalleled helicopter force in its history.

The €11 billion investment package includes commitments from the Star plan, approved in early 2022, and orders previously authorised by the Michel government.

These orders are primarily for F-35 fighter aircraft, new Griffon and Jaguar armoured vehicles, and next-generation warships, including minehunters and frigates.
