A network of Iranian accounts have been using ChatGPT to generate content to influence the American presidential election in November.

The developer of ChatGPT, OpenAI, reports that they had identified and banned a group of ChatGPT accounts responsible for generating content for a covert Iranian influence operation called ‘Storm-2035’.

OpenAI stated that the content was created with the intention of engaging followers of both major political parties in the U.S.

The generated content made various assertions such as that the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, was being censored or wished to proclaim himself as king.

There was also content and reports concerning the war between Israel and Hamas, and the Olympic Games, among other topics.

The content was developed for posts on online platforms and as fake articles on websites, OpenAI indicated.
