Single tickets to attend the Eucharist led by Pope Francis on Sunday 29 September at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels have rapidly sold out, announced the Episcopal Conference spokesperson Tommy Scholtes on Monday.

Organisers are considering making more tickets available, Scholtes added.

Individual tickets were available from 10:00 on Monday via the online platform Ticketmaster, but sold out within a few hours. "We are pleased that everything could be done from a technical point of view, and people could register," the spokesperson stated. However, the celebration's organisers will endeavour to offer more tickets to those who did not have the chance to reserve a spot, he continued.

Groups and youth groups participating in the Hope Happening event can still register. "Several thousand people have already committed," according to Gauthier Morel of Hope Happening, but registrations will close once all the tickets have been allotted.

In total, 35,000 people can attend the grand mass, celebrated as part of Pope Francis' visit to Belgium. The pontiff will be in Belgium from Thursday 26 September to Sunday 29 September to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Catholic universities KU Leuven and UCLouvain.
