Prince Gabriel of Belgium, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde's second child, blows out 21 candles today.

The Prince is currently studying Social and Military Sciences at the Royal Military School (162nd Promotion) and photos released to mark his birthday represent his militaristic leanings.

The Palace also announced that the young royal will embark on an Erasmus programme next academic year. He will spend five months in Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy in France, studying geopolitics in English (his usual studies are in Dutch).

Gabriel is also an avid sports fan. He enjoys tennis, skiing and sailing and played hockey in Brussels for nine years.

His elder sister is the Crown Princess Elisabeth, who has just completed a Bachelor's degree at Oxford University in the UK and will begin a Master's degree at Harvard University in the US at the end of this month.

Prince Emmanuel, the third royal child, will commence his university education abroad this academic year, while Princess Eléonore is still attending the International School of Brussels.
