British-American men’s rights influencer Andrew Tate is under house arrest in Romania as part of a fresh investigation, according to a social media announcement by a spokesperson on Thursday.

The ex-kickboxer is awaiting trial for alleged rape and human trafficking.

On Wednesday, authorities conducted searches, including at the 37-year-old influencer’s home, and arrested Tate alongside several other suspects. The new inquiry focuses on suspicions of human trafficking, engaging in sexual relations with a minor, and money laundering, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The influencer has vehemently denied these “unsubstantiated allegations.”

Romanian news outlets report that Tate and his brother, Tristan (36) were questioned on Wednesday night by the organised crime and terrorism investigation service.

A court in Bucharest declared that Andrew Tate has been placed under monitored house arrest for 30 days while Tristan is on judicial supervision for 60 days, which requires him to report regularly to the police.

The Tate brothers were previously accused of setting up a criminal organisation in Romania and Britain in 2021. The prosecutors claim that under this organisation, the Tate brothers and two women exploited multiple victims sexually. Their trial date has not yet been set.

Andrew Tate is one of the world’s most notorious influencers. He appeared on the UK reality TV show 'Big Brother' in 2016, but was expelled after a video emerged showing him assaulting a woman.

Since then, he has used social media platforms to propagate his misogynistic views, asserting, in particular, that women who are victims of sexual violence should be held accountable.
