German football coach Christoph Daum, who previously worked at Club Brugge, has died at the age of 70, his family reported to Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Daum had been battling lung cancer for two years.

Daum had an extensive career across Germany, Turkey, Austria and Belgium, notably at Club Brugge where he managed 31 games in the 2011-2012 season. Under Daum, Club Brugge finished second in the league for the first time in seven years. He left the post at the end of the season due to family reasons.

As a coach, Daum clinched the Bundesliga title with VfB Stuttgart and won several championships in Turkey with Besiktas and Fenerbahçe. He was also a champion in Austria with Austria Vienna and had a brief stint as Romania's national coach from 2016 to 2017. These assignments culminated his career as a coach.

In 2022, he revealed he had lung cancer and withdrew from public life.

Daum was due to take over as the German national team coach in 2000 until it was revealed that he had used cocaine. The German Football Association subsequently appointed Rudi Völler to head the Mannschaft.
