Islamic State shares video of alleged perpetrator of Solingen knife attack

The Islamic State terrorist group released a video on Sunday showing the alleged perpetrator of the knife attack in the town of Solingen, western Germany, that left three people dead and eight injured.

In the video, which lasts around a minute, a masked man can be seen holding a long knife towards the camera. The young man swears allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Arabic and refers to him by the honorific title of ‘emir’.

The authenticity of the video and whether the man seen in it is indeed the arrested suspect have not yet been independently verified.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack on Saturday.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian, appears to have stabbed people at random during a festival organised in a square in the centre of  Solingen to celebrate the city's 650th anniversary. He turned himself in after the attack and is in custody.
