After a one-month ban, recreational activities have resumed at Sport Vlanderen's Hazewinkel lake in Willebroek, Antwerp Province.

The Willebroek council has announced that open water swimming, surfing, rowing and kayaking are once again permitted.

The ban was introduced on 26 July after a type of blue-green algae was found in the lake’s recreational area.

Following a recent microscopic inspection, the council found that the algae had completely disappeared, thereby justifying the lifting of the ban on recreational activities.
