Greek police announced on Thursday that the body of a Dutch tourist, missing for a week in the Aegean Sea at Samos, was found dead in a remote area of the island.

An onsite autopsy identified the deceased as 64-year-old Brigitte van Gennip, from the Netherlands, who disappeared in Samos on 22 August, according to police.

On Wednesday, a Belgian tourist found her in a ravine, in an area distant from where her mobile had been tracked, police added.

Early police reports reveal no signs indicating a criminal cause at this moment.

Dutch authorities had sent rescue teams and eight dogs to Samos to assist Greek rescuers in finding the 60-something woman.

This summer, at least seven hikers vacationing on the Greek islands have been found dead.

Greek health authorities have consistently issued heat exposure warnings, dissuading people from staying outdoors during the hottest hours of the day.
