The five parties expected to form Belgium’s next federal government will meet this evening, ahead of a report expected to be delivered tomorrow to the King by mediator Maxime Prévot.
Prévot, who leads the Engagés party, is tasked with rebuilding trust following N-VA President Bart De Wever's failed effort to establish a coalition around N-VA, MR, Engagés, Vooruit, and CD&V.
Appearing at the Zevende Dag programme on VRT on Sunday, outgoing Finance Minister (CD&V), Vincent Van Peteghem, emphasised not lowering the ambitions for serious reforms.
“We speak of an ambitious reform government. A lowered ambition could see the new government encountering a Vivaldi situation,” he said, referring to the outgoing government. In this context, he also mentioned his fiscal tax reform proposal.
