KU Leuven and the Goethe Institute have entered into a partnership aimed at enhancing German language teaching in Flanders.
The partnership agreement, signed on Tuesday, offers a deeper understanding of German language didactics for students of ‘Language and Literature German’ at the Faculty of Arts, KU Leuven.
The four-year programme immerses students in German language, linguistics, literature, and culture, and can be extended with an additional educational master’s degree specialising in German.
Establishing a collaboration with the Goethe Institute will further prepare students for careers as German teachers.
"The partnership offers students a unique opportunity to optimally prepare and enhance their skills as German language teachers," said Professor Reine Meylaerts, Vice-Rector of Humanities. "It allows them to deepen not only their language skills but also enrich their cultural and teaching expertise."
Through the partnership, students can work within a digital learning environment named ‘Deutsch Lehren Lernen’, aimed at further educating them in teaching the German language.
The Goethe Institute will provide training to two guides who will assist students in this process. The Institute also plans to offer scholarships for participation in international conferences on teaching the German language and culture.
