The 12th edition of the Korean Film Festival from September 26 to October 3 will consist of three sections - Korean Film Today, RE-Imagined Tales and a special guest session by Korean film maker Kim Jee-woon.
The festival will present a diverse selection of films ranging from contemporary blockbusters to classic masterpieces, all providing a platform for dialogue and appreciation of Korean cinematic art.
The Korean Film Today section aims to bring trending topics to the international audience and promises a diverse range of Korean films, from action and thrillers to independent films and dramas, ensuring an unforgettable festival experience for film enthusiasts.
The RE-Imagined Tales section promises an exciting lineup of audiovisual content from movies and series to animations and web dramas. Korean cinema, in particular, is boldly reinterpreting original works, drawing inspiration from webtoons, novels, and animations.
Special forum
For aficionados of Korean cinema, a special forum entitled “Originals & RE-Imagined Films” is scheduled for the afternoon of September 28, coinciding with the film festival.
CHUNG Haetal, responsible for Communication & Film, stated that "this forum will delve into the metamorphosis of original works into novel cinematic art, presenting a plethora of examples. Eminent experts from both the European and Korean film industries will participate as panelists, and the illustrious director Kim Jee-woon will offer a masterclass. This event represents an unparalleled opportunity for admirers of director Kim.”
The forum will be divided into two sessions with the first session featuring a panel discussion with a film market analyst, a film streaming platform operator, a professor of language and cultural studies, and an analyst from the Korean Film Council.
The second session will be a master class led by world-renowned Korean film maker Kim Jee-woon, renowned for his unique blend of images, diverse stories, and distinct depth, and has significantly contributed to the global recognition of Korean cinema. The session will focus on his film Illang, an adaptation of an animated film. Kim will share his production methods and experiences in adapting original works into films, including Illang and his other notable works.
