Disruption to train services between Gent-Sint-Pieters and Brussels-Midi was reported on Thursday morning due to a cable theft, confirmed railway network manager Infrabel.

Infrabel was notified of the copper cable theft at around 03:00 on Thursday morning in Erpe-Mere in East Flanders.

"They stole 1,000-volt cables," explained Thomas Baeken of Infrabel to VRT. "These are important because they feed our signals; they give electricity to our signals."

Teams from Infrabel are on-site, and aim to carry out repairs as quickly as possible, but issues are expected to last until at least 09:00.

All P trains have been cancelled, with alternative trains rerouted via Aalst and Denderleeuw. As a result, journey times have been extended by roughly 20 minutes.
