Brasserie Ommegang, located on rue de la Montagne in Brussels, won the Best Carbonnade of Brussels 2024 category on Saturday.

The contest was organised by the non-profit group BXLove, with over 30 restaurants in the city competing in the culinary challenge that concluded on 30 August.

Votes were cast by both a panel and customers of participating restaurants via a QR code system, assessing Brussels’ best carbonnade, an emblematic Belgian dish.

Judgment criteria included the balance of flavours, tenderness of the meat, and originality of the recipe, ensuring it still honoured tradition.

More than 30 restaurants took part in the contest, with Brasserie Ommegang winning over Les Petits Oignons and La Taverne du Passage. Stekerlapatte and Het Kelderke finished at fourth and fifth, respectively.

Manneken Pis Café received both the public’s award and the Revisit prize, which recognises an innovative interpretation of the traditional carbonnade.

The Coup de Cœur award for best value was given to Patatak Bourse, known for its rich and tasty carbonnade, offered at a very affordable price.

Lastly, another Coup de Cœur prize went to Au Vieux Saint Martin for serving the best fries alongside the carbonnade.
