An academy offering a magic programme in French will soon be inaugurated at the Museum of Illusions, World of Mind (WOM), in Tour & Taxis in Brussels.

The Magic Minds Academy promises to go beyond teaching simple tricks. While it will offer practical training, it also aims to provide students with a "deep connection to the history of magic," according to a spokesperson for WOM's PR agency.

Among the teachers at the Academy is Maxime Mandrake, a Belgian magician who won a gold and silver medal at last year's World Championship of Performance Arts in Los Angeles (United States).

"The idea came from Maxime Mandrake's passion for magic and his desire to preserve its rich heritage while passing on the art to future generations," said the spokesperson. "His encounter with WOM, where he performs every weekend, helped him find the ideal place to set up the academy."

The programme, which is taught in French, is open to anyone aged ten and over. It covers around 40 hours of classes, divided over two-hour sessions twice a month on Wednesdays. The course will be taught at three different levels.

The cost of the programme will vary depending on the level of the sessions and the type of training. The standard prices include the options of €250 for six lessons, or €600 for 18 lessons. It will also be possible to pay in instalments.

Further details about the costs, classes and teachers will be discussed during a free information session, featuring a magic act demonstration, at 18:00 on 19 September at WOM. The session is limited to the first 100 people who register.

Enrolment for the courses will start on 20 September, and more information will be posted on WOM's website soon. Those who attend the information session will have the opportunity to pre-register before everyone else. The first class will take place on 2 October.
