Students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, FWB, are to have free access to the daily press from 30 September 2024 to 25 April 2025, under an annual initiative organised by Lapresse.be, which represents all Francophone and German-language newspapers.
The 'Ouvrir mon quotidien' (OMQ - Open my Daily ') programme will offer students access to both digital and print versions of newspapers published in the FWB.
The OMQ Print initiative will make the printed versions of newspapers available throughout the school year. A newly revised 'Journal de bord' ('Logbook,') available in two versions - for primary and secondary schools - will be part of the campaign.
The OMG-Digital initiative, which has had a successful test run, will be now fully launched in the 2024-2025 school year. Designed for secondary students, it will offer free access to all participating news websites during three periods: 5 November to 4 December 2024; 22 January to 21 February 2025; and 26 March to 25 April 2025.
To support these endeavours, Lapresse.be has developed new educational tools, including an updated version of the 'Logbook' for OMQ Print and an educational toolkit for OMQ Digital. These resources will be available online on the Lapresse.be website.
The OMG programme has been offering print versions of newspapers free of charge to primary and secondary schools for over 20 years. Each year, more than 1,300 schools take part in this initiative.
