A Jordanian military aircraft crashed in Bleid in the Belgian province of Luxembourg, some 150 metres from several houses, at around 17:45 on Monday. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation.

From his living room, a resident heard the sound of several planes flying quite low over his house on Monday afternoon and doing "aerobatics" before one suddenly swooped to the ground, he told French-language media.

"It was in a pasture outside the village.  One of the planes crashed to the ground.  I rushed to the scene and alerted the emergency services. There were two servicemen on board, the co-pilot at the back was injured but conscious.  The pilot in front seemed more injured and was unconscious," he said.

The pasture belongs to local farmer Lucien Bodlet, who usually keeps cattle there, but there were no cows in the area when the plane hit the ground. "It crashed 150 metres from our house," Jean-François, another resident, told La Dernière Heure.

Aerobatic patrol

The plane was a red two-seater aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Falcons aerobatic patrol of the Walter Extra 300 L or 330 type.

The Jordanian Falcons were reportedly on an aerobatic exercise and were due to return to the Kleine-Brogel base in the Flemish province of Limburg, where they were supposed to take part in a major airshow this weekend.

The plane's two occupants were seriously injured and taken to hospital, according to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, which has opened an investigation into the emergency landing.
