There will be no Metro services on Line 1 between Josephine-Charlotte and Stokkel on most weekday evenings from 23 September until 22 October, announced Brussels' public transport company, STIB, on Friday. A replacement bus service will be offered.

The current signalling on lines 1 and 5 has been in use since the metro opened in 1976 and needs updating to meet evolving demands. The upgrade began in 2020 and is mainly conducted at night. However, night-time works alone are insufficient for testing the new system.

From next week, metro services will be interrupted from 21:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Services will run normally on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until the end of the signalling works.

To ensure passengers reach their destinations, a replacement bus service will operate between Merode and Stokkel stations. Regular bus lines 42 and 45 will also extend their services from Roodebeek to Merode.

More information about the routes and timetables of the replacement services can be found on the STIB website.
