Cambio car sharing has been in Flanders for two decades, having started in Ghent in 2004, and now operating in over 100 cities and towns across the region.

The company announced on Tuesday that it plans to expand to more locations in the coming years.

Currently, more than 39,000 users share around 1,700 cars at 750 pickup points in Flanders.

Cambio aims to create a denser network of pickup points and to include more participating cities, especially in suburban areas. The company also plans to improve its software and further green its fleet.

According to Geert Gisquière, director of Cambio Flanders, one Cambio car can replace up to thirteen private cars.

He notes that users tend to drive less overall, opting for sustainable alternatives such as cycling and public transport when they no longer own a car.
