Fifty new schools in Wallonia have been selected to receive personalised guidance and support under a programme geared towards equipping them to earn the 'Cleaner School' label,  the Be WaPP organisation  announced on Thursday.

The aim is to encourage the participating schools to develop a comprehensive approach to waste management, according to Be Wapp, a non-profit organisation aimed at improving public cleanliness and contributing to a better environment in Wallonia.

The programme is run by Be WAPP and the Fost Plus environmental non-profit organisation,

Selected schools commit to conducting a thorough audit, after which they are to create and implement an action plan to reduce their waste and sort it more effectively.

The programme involves various stakeholders, including parents, school administration, teachers, students, and the organising authority.

To achieve their goals, participating schools receive personalised support from inter-municipal waste management organisations or the GoodPlanet association.

Financial support is provided to improve cleanliness and sorting infrastructure, as well as to organise awareness activities and educational tools.

Depending on their achievements, schools can earn the 'Cleaner School' label or an encouragement award after the two-year support period.

Since its inception, several hundred schools have received the label. This year, over 140 schools applied.

Be WaPP emphasises that schools that have not been selected can still have access to many educational tools by visiting the Be WaPP schools’ page.
