Anyone wishing to file a complaint with the Brussels North Police for a non-urgent matter will now need to make an appointment through an online platform.

This move is aimed at ensuring quality service and reducing waiting times, according to the Brussels North law enforcers, whose zone comprises Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.

A non-urgent matter is defined as one that does not pose an immediate threat to a person or their physical integrity and does not require an officer to visit the scene.

For example, Internet fraud is considered non-urgent, whereas a hit-and-run accident is urgent. Filing a vehicle theft report will now require an appointment, while victims of a recent handbag snatching should call 101 or go to the police station.

Appointments can be made on the Brussels North Police website, www.polbruno.be, from 08:00 to 18:00 on any day, including weekends, at a time and location convenient for the victim.

This new system is intended to prevent the need for sharing extensive personal information at the reception desk and eliminate long waiting periods.

"A one-hour appointment is set to ensure a quality welcome and listening ear,” police say. "Moreover, this new tool enables victims to know in advance which documents to bring, avoiding unnecessary trips.”
