Brussels police unearthed a large quantity of drugs while searching a hotel room located near the European Quarter district of the Belgian capital.

The local criminal investigation department of the Brussels Capital-Ixelles police zone seized 61.56 kilograms of cannabis and €58,975 on Saturday 28 September. The raid took place shortly after the arrest of suspected drug dealers near Ambiorix Square, very close to the European institutions.

While on patrol, police spotted two individuals behaving nervously there and decided to keep an eye on them. Not much later, a third suspect arrived with a vehicle and a suspected exchange took place. Detectives intervened to nab the first two suspects.

The anti-robbery brigade who came to provide reinforcement apprehended the third suspect. In the trunk of the vehicle, 4.560 kilograms of cannabis was found in a bag. A map of a hotel room was also found.

The police proceeded to search the hotel room in question and found a fourth suspect. Another 57 kilograms of cannabis and €58,975 euros were discovered in the room. During a second search at the address of 1 of the suspects, €1,000 as well as luxury items were seized.

The four suspects were made available to the Brussels Prosecutor's Office after questioning. An investigating judge was ordered and decided to place the four suspects under arrest for unlawful possession of narcotics for sale, in association.
