The Eurostar trains to London will resume their normal service from Amsterdam Centraal station early next year as the renovation work on the terminal is nearly complete.

Eurostar’s CEO, Gwendoline Cazenave, had recently threatened to halt services to Paris and London if the terminal was not ready on time.

A spokesperson for Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch equivalent of SNCB, confirmed that the renovation in Amsterdam is proceeding as scheduled and will be completed in December.

The number of Dutch passengers travelling abroad by train is rapidly increasing, with a 38% rise in trips to London last year. The completion of the Amsterdam terminal is expected to boost these numbers further.

Last year, 4.2 million people travelled by Eurostar between the Netherlands and France, the UK, and Belgium. Due to the renovation at Amsterdam Centraal, passengers bound for London currently have to disembark in Brussels for border control before continuing their journey.

Eurostar’s CEO also raised concerns about the length of the platforms at Amsterdam Centraal. They are 200 metres long, while Eurostar trains are 400 metres, affecting services to both London and Paris.
