Around eight in ten Brussels residents believe access to healthcare is unequal, according to a survey commissioned by the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain) and reported in Le Soir on Thursday.

An overwhelming majority (83%) of those surveyed believe that not all citizens have the necessary access to care, with 43% feeling that worsening social inequalities negatively impact their health.

Furthermore, 78% state that the Brussels healthcare system needs change, with only half considering current access to care as fair. Slightly less than half (40%) lament that wealthier individuals can obtain better care. Notably, nearly half of respondents (47%) are willing to pay higher taxes to improve medical care for the entire population.

A little less than half of the surveyed residents believe that healthcare services will improve in the future.

Among the top initiatives to enhance the health of Brussels residents by 2050, one-third believe more green and blue spaces are needed. Another 19% support eliminating cars, while 18% advocate for increased use of technology.

The survey data included responses from a representative sample of 2,000 people between the ages of 18 and 55 .
