Brussels Airlines is inviting the general public to help select the final designs for its new 'Belgian Icon' aircraft.
After a call for submissions, the airline received more than 900 proposals from the Belgian public. An internal jury then narrowed these down to 15 designs.
"The new Belgian Icon had to be distinct from any previous Icons, represent something that makes all Belgians proud, and be recognised across the border," said the head of marketing at Brussels Airlines, Michel Moriaux, in a press release. Now, the public is invited to vote for their favourite design until 11 October.
The five designs with the most votes will be presented to an external jury, including notable Belgians such as Alex Callier from the band Hooverphonic, the creator of the comic strip Le Chat, Philippe Geluck, and Gabrielle Szwarcenberg, the designer of Brussels Airlines' uniform.
The jury will meet in Brussels on 14 October to choose the final design. However, Brussels Airlines announced the chosen design will remain secret until the aircraft is unveiled in the spring next year.
The first 'Belgian Icon' aircraft by Brussels Airlines, named 'Rackham', was introduced in 2015 and pays tribute to Tintin.
