The Flemish Red Cross is providing logistical support to its Lebanese counterpart in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, it announced on Friday.
Essential medical supplies were sent on a flight to Beirut organised by federal authorities on Thursday. The supplies include 100,000 masks, 40,000 gloves, 300 body bags, and a special fridge for blood storage. "This refrigerator is crucial for the 13 blood transfusion centres managed by the Lebanese Red Cross," noted the Flemish Red Cross.
In response to the recent escalation, the Lebanese Red Cross has boosted its transfusion services and called for blood donations.
Previously, the Flemish Red Cross contributed €200,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) emergency relief fund. This funding will support medical, frontline and psychosocial assistance for displaced people.
The ICRC is also providing food, water and blankets to victims along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Anyone wishing to support victims of the conflict in Lebanon can donate to the Flemish Red Cross at account number BE53 0000 0000 5353, with the reference 'Conflict Midden-Oosten' (Middle East Conflict).
